The Buried City of Pompeii

In Roman times, Pompeii was a luxurious seaside resort town, where rich inhabitants of Rome went to escape from the summer heat. Unfortunately, it was also built under a volcano, Vesuvius, which erupted on the afternoon of August 24, in the year 79, burying the town in hot ash. Many centuries later, modern archaeologists dug out Pompeii again, revealing a perfectly preserved snapshot of Roman life, complete with graffiti on the walls and all the everyday objects people dropped in their hurry to escape. This book tells the story of the last day of Pompeii through the eyes of a servant in one of the fancy villas, with lots of photos of the excavated town and artifacts, and drawings of what it might have looked like back then.
