A Child’s Introduction to the Night Sky
 by Michael Driscoll

With a telescope or without one, this is a good book for finding out all about the planets, stars, constellations, and even weird stuff like black holes.  There's lots of interesting information in this book, so it's good for sampling in little bits whenever you’re curious about something, or reading whole if you really like space. There are also lots of good drawings that help explain things.  In the front pocket there is a handy star-finder that you can take out at night to help you find the constellations and planets in the sky, although the black holes are kind of hard to see.
